Reverend Fun - There's an app for that

Yes I am that guy who will take this wonderful cartoon and turn it into an article for my blog because I think that both are needed.  This is truly a great cartoon and one that speaks volumes.  (I often enjoy the work from www.reverendfun.com if you have not done so you should definitely check them out.)

They are right, there is an app for everything that you could ever want.  Although this is not necessarily what they had in mind.  Technology as a whole is moving so quickly and the church is not really catching up. In fact, I have seen some church that have not changed a thing and actually they are fairing better than some of the congregations that have tried to put together various ministries within the web.  I recently went to a conference and they told us that we should all have webpages for our church.  It should be simple and clean cut and most important of all accurate with current information.

One of the biggest things that I have seen is that people are so focused on the technological piece or the cost of the technology that they forget about the real purpose.  The real purpose is that technology is a tool, it is something that is suppose to help us stay connected and to be in relationship.  The technology is suppose to keep us all connected and on the same page of information.  The technology may help us with the relationship but ultimately it is not the same as meeting face to face and actually getting to do something with someone else.

I could have a Bible Study online but that does not mean posting the same lesson that would be used in a face to face realm because the conversation and the medium is different.  It could work if used within a group chat, however, I think that I am more interested in getting people in relationship to one another, getting them connected and actually engaging on topics that are found within the Bible and life.  Jesus Christ was not a app, it was not something that you should hear about one time and you are done but actually was a person and someone who is still alive and wants a relationship with you.

However, technology has also helped me realize that the future of the church has to change because the culture of society has changed but that is a blog post for another time.
