Sermon - January 27, 2013 - The Battle Begins

There is a saying, “On the battlefield, there is no atheists in foxholes."  Each man who enters into battle prays that God would help them through this battle and ensure that his family is protected.  The battle for the Promised Land was not an easy one.  From the very beginning God had the people prepare.  The people prepared by hearing the Word of God.  The people gathered together to hear the entire word that had been given to them.  The people also established their side of the covenant that was established with Abraham.  Last week we hear about the first battle in which God defeated the people of Jericho.  Throughout the campaign the people would consult the wisdom of God and when they did, they were victorious in battle.  However, the people were still sinful creatures and thought they could do things on their own. Those were the times that the people would fight and lose.  When you don’t consult God, the creator of all things and God is not on your side, you w

Sermon - January 20, 2013 - The Battle Begins

How many of you have been reading ‘The Story”?  Please raise your hands.  How many of you like it?  How many of you don’t like it? For those of you have not started, I encourage you to start.  For those who like it, I encourage you to continue in the journey.  For those who don’t like it, I want you to stop and reflect.  Are you reading it by yourself?  Are you reading it with others? Are you actually opening your heart to allow God’s Word to actually change your life? The people wandering in the desert, were sent there to get closer to God.  I think we as Americans can learn a great deal from this encounter, stuff does not bring you closer to God.  More often than not, the more stuff you have, the larger the home, and the more you focus on that, the further you are from God.  Yes, I am sure you who come every Sunday are probably getting sick of this message, but I will say it again.  “We need to get back to the basics.”  Why?  Because many of you know them, but now it is time to live

Chapter 6 - Wandering

Discipline is a way to help someone begin a new habit or focus within their life.  What are some habits that you wish to continue or begin?   The Wandering of the Hebrew people was due to the sin of the previous generation.  Make a list of things that have been a sin passed on to you and then make a list of blessings that have been given to you.   Now make a list of blessings that you want to give to the next generation.

Online Dating

Online dating is one of the new ways people are meeting someone to date. It is a way for people to meet people who are actually single.  No guessing within the bar if a person is single or even interested in getting to know people for a relationship.  Yet on these sites there are people who you will want to get to know and things won't work out.  There are other times that you will meet someone and you find that you wish you had not given out your number to a person.  While there are some great safety features within online dating websites, there is also a time in which you want to get to know someone between the website and meeting in person. (And perhaps even a few dates after meeting a person.)  That you wish your personal information had not been given out to people. Thus the reason that I write this article. For most people they want a way to get to know someone through email, text messages, or web chat before meeting them in person.  Other people would like to just do one of

Reading:Numbers 11: 16-27 16 So the Lord said to Moses, “Gather for me seventy of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; bring them to the tent of meeting, and have them take their place there with you. 17 I will come down and talk with you there; and I will take some of the spirit that is on you and put it on them; and they shall bear the burden of the people along with you so that you will not bear it all by yourself. 18 And say to the people: Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wailed in the hearing of the Lord , saying, ‘If only we had meat to eat! Surely it was better for us in Egypt.’ Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. 19 You shall eat not only one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, 20 but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you—because you have rejected the Lord who is among you, and have wailed be
